RESEARCH STUDY

WE ARE CONDUCTING A RESEARCH STUDY OF THE EFFECTS OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS ON SHORT-TERM MEMORY

The study involves visits every 4 months for 1-3 years .

The first visit will take one full day. Subsequent visits will take 4 hours.

Each visit will include:

1) testing on a computer or with paper and pencil of memory and attention abilities.

2) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

3) evaluation of the function of areas in the brain that are involved in memory by using functional MRI during performance of short-term memory tasks.

Subjects who have the following may join:

¬    A clinically definite diagnosis of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis

¬    Are otherwise in good mental and physical health

¬    Are already established on one of the standard "ABC" treatments.

¬    Are between the ages of 18 to 55 years old.

Women who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or nursing

may not participate.

Subjects will be compensated for their time and effort with

$25 for every hour spent in the MRI scanner.
